Career Highlights: Mitchell’s collegiate career at Baylor University was distinguished by his exceptional defensive prowess and leadership. He played a pivotal role in leading the Baylor Bears to their first NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship in 2021, contributing 15 points, six rebounds, and five assists in the title game against Gonzaga. 

In recognition of his defensive skills, Mitchell received several accolades, including the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award, the NABC Defensive Player of the Year award, and the Lefty Driesell Award as the top defensive player in the nation. He also earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year honors and was named to the First Team All-Big 12. 

Transitioning to the NBA, Mitchell was selected ninth overall by the Sacramento Kings in the 2021 NBA Draft. He quickly established himself as a formidable defender, earning the nickname “Off Night” for his ability to disrupt opposing offenses. On March 20, 2022, Mitchell recorded a career-high 28 points, along with three rebounds and nine assists, in a game against the Phoenix Suns. 

In June 2024, Mitchell was traded to the Toronto Raptors, where he continues to showcase his defensive tenacity and playmaking abilities.
